How rare are volcanoes and ravens?

Volcanoes show up fairly regularly for [a] my Hunter. Ravens also show, [but a soldier may see more] but not as regularly. Axman 02:53, May 12, 2012 (UTC)

EDIT: That's kinda misleading, Drmax. Character class has no effect on what type of loot you find more often. It's completely random. In my experience, volcanoes aren't partcularly rare, and neither are Ravens, but good luck finding a good Raven. 68.46.182.213 03:05, May 12, 2012 (UTC)

EDIT: I'm just saying that's my experience. I didn't see as many Volcanoes as a soldier, but seems like I saw a lot more assault rifles (can't remember how many Ravens, thus my speculation). Could be confirmation bias on my part, I suppose. But all our experiences can vary, [even with randomness] given that it is random. Axman 03:57, May 12, 2012 (UTC)

EDIT: If it is even possible to have weapons spawn in response to the character class you are, that might explain why I keep finding SMGs as a Siren (though I've encountered a huge amount of Thanatos repeaters) I seriously doubt that that happens as the growth system does leave enough room to reject the weapon type that the character is built to utilize the best. 175.137.203.168 05:24, May 12, 2012 (UTC)

EDIT: pretty common. I find them all the time on craw. Message me if your on Xbox and I could give you some weak ones or trade you high level ones.

EDIT: Volcanoes and Ravens, like every other non-unique item in the game, are dropped RANDOMLY. Random is RANDOM. There is no special technique or glitch or exploit to ensure getting one.

EDIT: People's perception of randomness is probably less randon than true randomness. Axman

EDIT: Actually, things like ammo drops are not random. AT ALL. happypal (talk • contribs) 20:13, May 12, 2012 (UTC)

EDIT: Volcanoes are some of the more common Oranges, because the effect is coming from the accessory (acc_2_Maliwan_Volcano_accessory) meaning they come in a wide variety of builds, and rarities. The Volcano accessory only gives a +3 to rarity, whereas the best sights are a +8, and most of the other "top" parts are +5. Therefore it's common to find a lot of crappy Volcanos once you get to a high enough level that the game is throwing you a lot of oranges. Also, there's a quest for one, so that helps.

Similarly, Ravens are based of their magazine, also with a rarity of +3 for the part, so there's a lot out there in a lot of configurations.

Also, just to point out, while drops are random, there is some pattern to them. Certain enemies have a higher chance to drop certain types of weapons. Creatures drop weapons less often than other gear (grenades, shields, etc). Enemies who USE a certain weapon are more likely to drop one, especially in DLC 3, where Pyros almost always have an incediary weapon equipped, and so forth. Finally, the level of your kills affects the level of the weapon, but NOT the rarity. Therefore a good strategy for farming a certain weapon is to go somewhere with lots of enemies you can kill easily. Another good strategy is killing Badasses, who are more likely to drop rares.

So find yourself some Badass Bandits, especially Murderers and Brutes and maybe you'll get lucky.
