not really, there are pearlescent weapons that are the rarest and have some of the best red text effects, but because of the games randomly generated system it is possible to find items of lower rarity but higher stats. another factor to consider is your characters specs which will greatly alter which weapon is ultimate for you and your playstyle

I kept the original post up, but it isn't necessarily their fault but most don't know that Pearlescent is not the highest legit rarity the game offers. I friends with a play tester for the borderlands series, and he is friends with the delevopers. And yes Gold there is actually Gold rare shields. If you fight Crawmerax with four 69 level players, all legit accounts, never played co op with a modded account, you get incredible gear. Gold rarity is so strong it evens defeats modded weapons.
